Linear Equations in One Variable – Chapter 2 / Worksheets
Fill in the blanks:
- The solution of the equation 2x – 1 = 3 is ————–
- The solution of 2y = 14 is ————
- A linear equation in one variable has ———– solution.
- 5 is added to thrice a number x gives 20. The value of x is ——————-
- If 2 is subtracted from a number, it becomes -8.This statement in the form of an equation is ————–
Answer the following: - Find the solution of the equation: 2x + 5 = 25
- The perimeter of a rectangle is 12 cm and its width is 2 m, find its length?
- Solve the equation 2x + 5 = x – 3
- Three consecutive integers add up to 45. Find the integers?
- The difference between two whole numbers is 24. The ratio of the two numbers is 5:1. Find the two numbers?
ANSWERS:
- 2
- 7
- Only one solution
- 5
- x – 2 = -8
- 2x + 5 = 25
2x = 25 – 5 = 20
x = 20/2 = 10. - Assume the length of the rectangle to be x cm
The perimeter of the rectangle = 2 x (length + breadth)
12 = 2 (x + 2)
12 = 2x + 4
12 – 4 = 2x
8 = 2x
x = 8/2 = 4 cm - 2x + 5 = x – 3
2x – x = (-3) + (-5)
x = -8 - Let the three consecutive integers be x, x+1, x+2.
Given x + (x +1) + (x + 2) = 45
3x + 3 = 45
3x = 45 – 3 = 42
x = 42/3 = 14
x + 1 = 14 + 1 = 15
x + 2 = 14 + 2 = 16
So the three consecutive integers are 14, 15, 16. - Let the two numbers be 5x and x.
Given 5x – x = 24
4x = 24
x = 24/4 = 6. So the two numbers are 30 and 6.
In the last question you guys haven’t written the whole ans in it we needed to find out the 2 no.s
And you guys have only found out the value of x . I admit you haven’t done the method in wrong way but your question is wrong. Because 5x-x=24 where 5x=5*6=30 and x=6 so, ATQ 36-6=24 but the true ans is 30. I think that’s why you haven’t solve your whole question. But bad luck for student who think it’s the end of the ans. 😔
Two numbers are 30 and 6.
It’s difference = 30 – 6 = 24
Now ok?
